This is a review for Atarashi 18 x 18 Outdoor Pillow Inserts(Set of 2) – Waterproof Decorative Square Throw Pillows for Couch Sofa Bed Patio Furniture, Garden & Patio, White 18×18 inchMaybe it’s the freezing weather and snow but I saw these outdoor pillows and started dreaming of warmer days on my patio! I was so excited to get them and immediately opened them to check out their quality.The pillows come vacuum sealed, I left them out overnight and they looked great the next morning. The best thing about these pillows is you don’t have to question if they’re truly made for the outdoors. This isn’t some rough fabric with a shiny treatment sprayed on it.. these are TPU polyester which is a fabric similar to rubber/plastic. It’s made to be very pliable for use on all sorts of things like medical devices and water/outdoor gear and clothing. It’s waterproof, very strong and resistant to abrasions as well as being resistant to chemicals, oil and fungi. The material is clearly waterproof because it has a plastic like sheen but it’s surprisingly supple too. It doesn’t make a loud crinkle noise like traditional plastic does. This distinction is really key for me because our summers are very humid and we have many trees around our home. We get very little sun and moss grows wild on every surface. My outdoor fabrics have to be waterproof or they mildew and mold easily. These are true outdoor pillows so you can buy with confidence.Another great feature I like on these pillows is that the cover has a zipper to access the fill. If you need to wash the cover you can remove the fill and hand wash it. And if you decide you want plumper pillows you can add fill too. The fill is a very soft polyester batting.The pillows are stitched really well and the zipper is quite sturdy. There’s a dark blue piping around the edges that will help keep clean lines and perky corners. The darker blue may show through the fabric of lighter colored covers but most outdoor covers are thick so you may still be OK. I didn’t have a light outdoor cover to test how visible the piping is so just be aware if you have a white or light cream covers you plan on using.These pillows aren’t overfilled and they’re firm but not hard. The cover is thick and if you compress the pillow it’s slow to fluff back into shape, because the thick cover is only slowly letting air pass back through. The pillow is still quite comfortable to use though! I sat with one behind my back for a while and I thought it felt soft but supportive. I was pleasantly surprised, especially considering it’s an outdoor pillow as they’re usually more for looks.I think the quality of these pillows is excellent and the value is more than fair. I can’t wait to use them outside when winter is over. I have no doubts they’re sturdy and waterproof, really ideal for outdoor use, but I’ll update if I have any issues come spring. Meanwhile, I’ve placed covers on them and have them on a guest bed where they look very pretty. I wouldn’t be opposed to using these pillows indoors year around either. I think they’re comfortable and well made enough to use them anywhere you choose. Highly recommend!
