The corner of our counter used to be a disorganized riot of fruit, especially in the summer. (We eat a lot of fruit.) We used a large bowl that was still laughably too small. Then it became two bowls and we had no counter space at all in that corner. I finally stumbled on this solution of a multi-level rack. It’s been awesome. Not saying we never have a mess in that corner any more, but at least it’s only when we have an unusual amount of fruit, and not the normal, post-shopping glut. This rack holds nearly all of it, except for the pineapple or melon we often have on hand — a pineapple or smaller cantaloupe or, say, a butternut squash technically would fit, but we don’t put them in the rack because it would crowd out too much else. The design is attractive and also functional. The front cutout on each level means it’s easier to reach in and grab something. And it all seems sturdy enough to hold everything and be shifted around on the counter somewhat frequently.I do wish the top rack was an inch lower, though I knew when I bought this that only the lower two levels would likely be useful in my space; not deducting a star for that. As it is, the top rack is too close to our upper cabinet to be very useful. We do sometimes put smaller stuff there that we don’t need to access frequently, since to get anything out of that shelf, we have to pull the rack out a few inches. I added some of those refrigerator mats for fruit/veg drawers, cut to size for each shelf, because the spacing on the wires is not small and we do sometimes store smaller or more delicate items like apricots and pears that I didn’t want to have bruised by sitting directly on the rack. Bananas hang nicely to either side, saving even more space. My only other wish is that it came with a cloth screen for the summer, when we have to battle fruit flies. We had to revert to a covered bowl part way through last summer when the flies peaked and no amount of vigilance could convince them to stay away from our fruit. Next year, I think I’ll make a cheesecloth “tent” for the rack. Can’t yet speak for longevity, as we’ve only had this for a few months. But I’ve seen nothing yet to worry me and am extremely happy with the purchase. [...]
